To all:
I wanted to say thanks to all of you for the many years of valuable information I received from this site. I've recently sold my '95 Aero (my 3rd 9000)via the classified board, so I'll be 'moving on'....
A few special people from this board I would like to mention: Robert Davis, whose knowledge of wheels / tires was always impressive, and Bob Amalfi, who had a terrific 9000 web site.
I made many mods to the Aero, all based upon what I read on this site:
-Fuse #31 - DRL - removed. I hated driving with my lights on.
-Install Bilstein shocks.
-Install Firestone SX50's - multiple sets (thanks, Robert).
-Remove middle muffler.
-Reprogram the HVAC to start-up in ECON mode.
-Redo the center stack, with (top to bottom) a Taurus coin/cup holder, a Saab storage bin, and a Kenwood CD/MP3 player
The car was always a blast to drive, but did require it's share of TLC. A very special thanks to Robert, from 2 Guys from Sweeden in Los Angeles.
A final note: To those who feel the new Saab's -- especially the 9-2 & 9-7 -- aren't true Saabs (and I know where you're coming from), please keep in mind that the only way Saab will survive will be through additional volume. Many of you might not recall the 'hell' Saab was put through for the 9000 -- it was a shared platform (any of you still remember the 4 companies that sold a version?), with the key NOT on the floor. It wasn't a 'true' Saab. Yet, after all these years, I would consider it as much a Saab as the old 900. So I would suggest everyone give Saab a bit of a break -- let's see what happens.
As for my favorite 9000, I would have to say the 91 - 92 5-door turbo. I would ask for a set of the Aero's front buckets to be installed....
BTW, for those interested, the 4 companies that shared the platform were: Lancia (Thema), Fiat (Chroma, I believe), Alfa Romeo (Milano), and Saab (9000).
Best of luck to all -- thanks again,
Barry
