Was hoping this would be a posting of success to let others know how I had fixed my tcs problem, but the tcs gremlins have returned and now I am looking for advice, although I will post what I have learned.
Read about 4 years worth of tcs postings on this site and I give out huge thanks to Anders and the others that post info here who I thought had solved my problem.
The problem and symptoms were the following: the car (92 9000 Turbo 160k)
started having on and off engine stalls followed with the dreaded tcs light coming on. After this went on for a little while the stalls got closer and closer together and finally any engine rev resulted in a stall.
The postings I read lead me to make the easiest fixes first.
First I changed the safety valve and the non-return (check) valve which seemed to have no result. Then I changed the charge air bypass control valve which also seemed not to work, it died and I got the tcs light. Since I was working on the car I also changed the fuel filter and the air filter, then when I started up the motor after the filter changes, magically the engine did not die. Test drove the car and no problems
no tcs death, no problems. My assumption was that that the fix was the charge air bypass control valve change, and the tcs I got after I changed it was some sort of ghost. So the car ran great and I thought everything was fixed, but today, a week and a half after the fix, it died twice with the return of the tcs light.
From what I had read the following are the things left on the standard tcs lists that I have read here; test and change (if necessary):
- pedal position sensor and/or
- throttle body
- ETS (ECU), unlikely per post comments
And from the books I have read test and change (if necessary):
- kick down actuator
- ASR module
- ABS-TC/ABS diodes
Do note that I ran into one weird fact, the throttle body in this car had been switched out and replaced with a M941/2 9170705, which from what I have read should not be on this 92 B234 Turbo, but that is just a another part of this mystery.
If anyone else has any suggestions or ideas I would like to hear them. If I find a solution I will let everyone know.
