I second Ari's observations. I currently own a '95 9000 Aero, and previously owned a '92 9000 S. The temperature guage on my '92 would do a good deal of dancing when cold, and I have witnessed the initial "surge" readings on the temperature guage quite often. That kind of activity on the temperature guage I always found a bit disconcerting, but felt that it was honest. When I got my Aero a few months back, I was initally pleasantly surprised to see the temperature guage consistently reading around the 8:00 range - I thought that SAAB had perhaps "finally" addressed the 2.3 engine's temperature tantrums. Seeing as how the cooling fan is now actuated via control mechanisms in the EDU (and not by a temperature switch in the radiator itself), this seems to lend a lot of credence to Ari's observation about the somewhat lobotomized readings on later model temperature guages.
