I was wrong on a couple details.
There was no need to support the engine from above. Rather, I undid the motor mount bolt and raised the engine off the motor mount like I was going to change it (good idea to do so if it needs it--mine didn't) using a jack under the oil pan.
Take off the wheel trim and wheel liners--makes it much easier. Slacken the serpentine belt and slip it off the idler pulley--Ari posted a great technique for this using a 19mm socket and a breaker bar. Disconnect the power steering pump from its bracket--two bolts on the bottom, and two bolts accessed THROUGH the pulley. I thought that was a pretty cool piece of engineering!
Once you swing the pump out of the way, you can slide the bracket right in. If you have the driveshaft and aluminum tube fully seated on the transmission side, it's a lot easier to manage the bracket into place. Make sure you lube up the stub shafts and line everything up before you push it firmly together. I ended up getting it all together by pushing with my foot on the cup part of the CV joint.
The easiest way to get the bracket to bolt up is to get the 2 long bolts in the middle of the bracket screwed in, then the top one is no problem. The rest is "a reversal of removal."
Good luck.
