the Mitsu turbo does not need any better of a cat than the Garrett turbo does. In fact, you've only got two cat choices: hi-flow or race.

They both work the same, however the differences are in price (race is $$$ and hi-flow is $), and the catalyst that is used to render the exhaust gases harmless (race uses plates and hi-flow uses mesh or pellets). Although the plate design will allow faster flowing of gases, the rate at which it does that is minimal in comparison to the mesh style and not noticeable when used in everyday driving.

As for the CEL coming on after a JT install, typical reasons are faulty primary O2 sensor from improper handling during removal and re-installation, and secondary O2 sensor not installed or wired incorrectly (since you have to lengthen the existing wiring).

If the CEL came on after the install of a Stage 3 ECU, that could be one of many reasons. Bad re-mapped ECU, vacuum/boost leak caused now by the extra amount of boost being generated which in turn could lead to a rich/lean mixture, correct ECU was not used for the re-mapping (this only applies if you sent a spare ECU for re-mapping and it was not the same model # as the one your car needs), etc. What you need to do is have the codes displayed that triggered the CEL (can be done for free at AutoZone, or $30 at an indie), then post back with those codes or look in the archives for the reason. It might be as simple as needing to reset the ECU and hope for the best.
