Gavin,
the 90's don't have a MAP - you're right.
But I still think it's your TPS - especially after
this info. Everytime you disconnect the battery
it resets adaptation to some sort of default and
enter a drivability learning mode. This is done in the ECU.
Your ECU isn't learning right and the fact that it takes increasing
acceleration to get boost says to me "bad info from TPS".
There are direct methods of reseting the adaptation -
basically jumping 1&2 on the TPS and then doing
a full bore accelleration in the highest gear possible
from 2000 to 3500 rpm lasting at least 3 seconds.
That should reset the ECU adaptation.
If it degrades after that then it's probably the TPS.
Somewhere I have info on resistance readings etc to
test the TPS - email if you need them.
