If your car has the original TCS safety valve.... which is behind the engine bolted to the firewall on the passenger side and has two vacuum hoses and a cut-off vacuum hose attached to it...... then you may want to replace it along with the check valve and all the vacuum lines in the car.
The check valve is red/white and is inline with one of the hoses from the TCS safety valve. Most people recommend silicone vacuum hoses. Some site sponsors sell a kit for this.
Replacing this stuff is easy and is around $175 in parts. From what I've read here, these are considered basic preventative TCS maintenance along with cleaning the contacts at the pedal potentiometer and the throttle body electrical connectors with electronics cleaner.
IMPORTANT:
It sounds like you did not go into full "limp-home" (LHM) mode. The first time you go into LHM you must be prepared. Depending on traffic conditions, going into LHM can be very dangerous.
You should read the owners manual section on TCS carefully. If and when the car goes into LHM, the backup throttle cable is activated, the car will lose power suddenly.
You must let off on the accelerator completely before you can then accelerate using the backup system!
REMEMBER, let off the gas completely and then stomp it. The backup system makes the pedal very stiff and it will seem like you have no power. Just step harder, the car will go.
I hope you never have LHM happen but please be more prepared than I was. Because I didn't know to let off the gas completely at first, I had to just drift to the side of the highway. No fun.
You should read up on TCS on this board. Use the search function, you'll scare yourself into doing the preventative stuff I outlined.
Good Luck -AMG
