Click on the "more from Urby" thing to get a list of my previous posts, and looks for one about transmission cooler lines--Ari and Swedecar gave me some great tips, and it ended up costing me about $65 for hoses and other hardware.
I was able to get the old fittings out with no problem. I used a Dremel to get through the metal "sleeve" at the end, and then re-used the fittings on the new hoses (after a thorough cleaning!).
Hydraulic hose specs (I think, but check previous posts to be sure) are oil-resistent, heat-resistent, and rated up to 300 psi. The shop I went to only had ones rated in the 2000psi range, which is overkill, but the price was still very reasonable.
The only other thing that I did was that I was nervous about how the hose fit around the old fittings after I clamped it on. So I took some JB Weld and put it around the end of the hose on the fitting to seal the hose up. Probably totally unnecessary, but it made me feel a lot more confident in what I had done.
Good luck--not a bad job at all, just a little unconventional.
