I don't use a sealant myself but I'm very careful to line up the pipe into thermostat housing and get it staggered the proper way out by the lifting sling and make sure I don't tweak the pipe when tightening the bolt.
If you get the coolant tube bracket on the wrong side it might not seal properly because it's cocked sideways a little.
I always leave the two thermostat bolts loose while inserting the tube and get it all lined up. Then I tighten the bracket bolt and thermostat housing together so that I don't creat any tension.
As you are aware of, it's quite an intricate way that they have stacked the lifting sling, dip stick tube and coolant tube on top of each other making it difficult to remove the coolant tube.
I can't recall from the top of my head which part goes first against the cylinder head and what comes next.
I think dealer mechanics use the same sealant as for the oil cooler lid in engine P/N 4773594.
