So I finally got dirty today. I drove over to a friends house and changed the flex pipe in his driveway. I could not get either end to seal 100%. I tried making sure they were lined up as I read here. I loosened/lined up/tightened several times. It was getting dark so I decided it was good enough for now.

The car has only had base boost since I got it. Since the APC solenoid had been replaced 38K ago I was assuming the waste gate rod had fallen off. Well it had not. On the way home I remembered that to test the APC solenoid you only had to remove the middle hose. I pulled over and cursing that GM have removed the under hood light removed the hose. I could not remember if you were supposed to plug it and did not have anything anyway so did not. As I went to pull back onto the main road the needle went into the hatched red and I had a traction problem :) I let of the gas and the needle did not go all the way down but stayed right at the intersection of green and yellow. I tried acceleration again and still had boost but something would limit me by letting air escape when it got to a certain pressure. It would then boost again until the pressure was at that point and the air would escape.

I pulled over and re-connected the hose hoping it would sort out the gauge but it did not :( I can hear a rush of air now when I decelerate. I am not sure if this is new since I had an exhaust leak before.

Did I kill my boost gauge? :( :(

Is it normal for the APC solenoid to die with only 38K on it? I will lookup the WD-40 trick and try it.
Rupert
