clutch bleeding woes.

I have just replaced the clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing in my 1994 CS. Due to the high cost of a slave cylinder in Australia I bought a reconditioning kit and had a local brake specialist install the new components in the slave cylinder.
I also read all the previous posts on this site about bleeding the clutch hydraulics. I choose to pressure bleed using a bicycle tube clamped over the intake of the reservoir. I pressurised the top of the reservoir to about 10 psi and have bled the slave cylinder over and over again but have failed to get any resistance what-so-ever in the clutch pedal when it is pressed down.
Is there any way of testing the master cylinder as an individual component and likewise is there a way of testing the slave cylinder without the master cylinder being involved.
I didn't replace the master cylinder but it was working OK prior to me removing the clutch.
In regard to the method of pressurising the system, it worked perfectly when I flushed out the brake lines and wheel cylinders.
I have pushed about two thirds of a cup of new fluid through the slave cylinder so I think I can rule out a blockage in the hydraulic line between the two components.
I would really appreciate in this matter. Thanks
