Ian,
Is there any chance that you may have let the reservoir fluid level drop below the intake level for the clutch circuit? It is VERY easy to do- I know! Look inside the reservoir and you will see the rectangle divider on the inboard aft corner which delineates the clutch pickup circuit. Mark the top of that divider on the outside of the tank so you can watch the level as you bleed the clutch. Put more fluid in when it even get close to that level.
Very frustrating to go thru all the work and then be faced with the possibility that you get to pull the tranny to look at the slave cylinder again- one of my great gripes about Saab engineering! So, I won't even think about that.
1. Can you observe any movement of the slave?
2. No movement, no fluid leaking = no pressure. So..
a possibility is that some crud from flushing the system is blocking open the check valve in the master.
3. Fill up the reservoir to the brim and hook up your bleeding stuff and push fluid thru the discharge line into the discharge container. You don't want any air in the discharge line for the next step.
Open the slave bleed valve and have an assistant slowly pump the clutch. If it is pushing fluid, at least half of the master is functioning and the fluid level in the supply reservoir should be dropping. Most importantly, no air bubbles show up. If the supply level doesn't drop, the pumping action is just moving fluid back and forth. If so,I will still suspect the master check valve.
At least the master is very simple to remove and the rebuild kits are inexpensive.
One other component that you might consider changing out is the hose that runs from the bottom of the reservoir to the master. These are notorious for aging from the inside out and flaking little pieces of rubber into the system resulting in check valve failures in the master.
But, lets just hope you still have a little air in the system. Let me know what's up.
Kev
