You can lubricate the fan motor by removing the false bulkhead, making a small hole (with a heated nail or tip of a soldering iron) in the end of the plastic fan housing and squirting silicone lubricant. This lubricates the brushes area and bushing. I did this, and it revived the motor for about a month.
But - this is a temporary fix. Eventually, the carbon brushes and the commutators wear-out and the only remedy is a new fan motor (around $60). Also this procedure does not lubricate the other end of the fan shaft which can only be accessed by removal.
