Don't use piano wire! The wooden fascia is held on by a couple of screws. There is a screw in the left-hand set of vertically arranged switches(foglights front and rear) in between the second and third switches. The third switch from the top is just a dummy cover - pull it off using a screwdriver to pry it out, and then reach up inside and pull/push the next (second) switch. The screw is located between these two switches. Another screw is located at the very bottom of the center console portion, just in front of the gearshift lever assembly. You are going to have to pull out the cubby in the lowest portion of the center console to get at this screw. There are two additonal screws; one is located in the ACC recess (gotta pop out the ACC unit to get at it), and the other is located in between the seat heater rheostats and cabin temperature sensor. This screw is covered up in the same fashion as the one in between switches number two and three to the left of the steering column. Sounds like a lot of work, but it is actually fairly easy - I removed the wooden dash from my '92 9000 in about 45 minutes.
