Been busy all day on the 94 cde auto to 5 speed conversion...

First thing in the morning, brought the top engine mount bushing I managed to push in half way into the bracket to the shop. Went to pick it up an hour later. Nicely done, for a mere $10.60. Thank you Ari. I probably would have beaten myself on the head tring all kind of home made contraption and likely destroy the bushing and the bracket doing it.

The project car is parked in the driveway. So I have make good use of the increasingly short day light. Spent a good amount of time removing the dash. The walnut dash I do not care much for. But I was very caeful removing it.

Got into problems early. I found I cannot move the shifter with the powertrain and battery removed. I may also have to remove the HVAC duct going around below the shifter. It goes under both front seat. I can't remove the power front seats either without battery power. So I am stuck removing the shifter to replace with the stick shifter. I am thinking to use a 12v power supply to the appropriate fuse to try moving the shifter and move the power front seat. But that's tomorrow. Meanwhile if anyone can tell me how to move the shifter without the battery connected, it will be greatly appreciated.

Next is the clutch pedal assembly. It is easier than I thought it would be, having been warned plenty about the one bolt on the top of the assembly being tough to get. With the instrument cluster removed, it is not as bad. I found hooking up the throttle cable the toughest. There is just too little space. Have been playing body contortionist under the dash practically all day.

If you look at the clutch pedal assembly, it is very simple. The clutch pedal has two lines to the master cylinder attached to it, one braided rubber hose coming in from the brake fluid reservoir and another metal tubing going out to the transmission. The brake pedal connects to the brake servo unit through a round pin and a spring loaded clip. The gas pedal connects to the throttle cable. The assembly itself has five holes for bolting. Four holes bolt to the brake servo unit through the firewall. The top hole bolts to the firewall. But getting all these took me the better part of the day.

I found one wire loom goes in through the firewall using the hole meant for the clutch tubing. Is this common for the auto? Those of you who have done the conversion must know this. What is it? It is in the way of the rubber seal plug on the tubing going through the firewall.

I also found the bearing housing/rear engine mount bracket Rum's garage gave me is making a grinding noise. I may have to replace the bearing in it.
