Thanks Yaofeng for your help on this issue.
I have been putting a pin into the top of the gearbox but not at the other end. I can select reverse now which was the issue I was having trouble with. However in my car the reverse lock out ring is not functioning and I don't why. Possibly a part of the mechanism is broken or missing.
Later, I may try modifying the gear change to make the throws shorter. There are numerous posts on this issue and it doesn't sound difficult to do.
One thing I would like to do is to fit a front strut brace mainly to tighten up the body to reduce flexing and resulting creaks. The cost of buying a brace in Australia is too high so I am considering fabricating my own. I have been told they should be very tight to fit to be effective.
I read your frequent posts with interest. You must be like me as I spend a considerable time at my computer. I have a TV capture card so I can watch televison and at the same time surf the net. Of late the first thing I do is check the posts on the Saab Network!
Regards
Ian
