Plastiguaging is a process where one takes a piece of Plastigauge.. and places it in a Crank bearing.. then retorques the Bearing cap..the Plastiguage squeezes flat into the space beteween the Crank Journal and the Bearing.. them Removing it, one places the thing against a small chart, which easily indicates the Running clearance of that Bearing.
In short one does this to discover how (or Not) Knackered ones bearings are and by implication/experience.. the Engine is.
Sludge inna Engine is a BAD sign.. unfortunately.. Inspect everything..
Bearings, ring Lands inna Pistons, Guide clearances, etc..as it's ALL suspect untill proven otherwise.
