Any suggestions about my ongoing problm with my 9000Cd would be welcome. The problem is that intermittently the car will suddenly lose power and often stall - this can happen at any time, even when cruising at 80 or 100 kph, but most usually after the car has been running a while and the engine is hot. Once it happens the car will not start for a while but then if you go back to it say 30 to 60 minutes later it starts and runs fine until it happens again. It's dangerous if it happens in traffic and at the moment I won't let my wife drive it because of this. I've replaced the Ignition Amplification module and this made no difference. I've also replaced the fuel filter, the hooter valve, checked the plugs, checked and resealed the vacuum lines. This is a 1987 9000 so there is no Direct Ignition cassette. I gather the two other potential causes are either a faulty Crank Position/Angle Sensor or the fuel pump - is there any way for a layman to tell whichis the most likely cause becuase Idon't want to spend hundreds on a new fuel pump only to find it wasnt the problem. One thing I did notice when I ran it on the weekend is that before it lost power and stalled there was a very loud noise buzzing/whining sound coming from the fuel pump and just before it stalled out this noise began to vary in pitch in time with the idling of the engine (it sounded like a pump does when it is running dry - but there was plenty of fuel in the tank). Also, if it is the CPS sending bad signals to the pump and I need to replace it how do you get to the blasted thing! It must be one of the most inaccessible parts on the whole engine(it is at the back of the engine under the inlet manifold isnt it?)- I read that to get to it you have to take off the right wheel, the wall of the wheel arch, and the crankshaft pulley (which I really dont want to touch if it can be helped). Any suggestions?
