Is Bosch to blame??

My aero just blew its engine. From a cursory exam, the #1 rod is gone. The timing chain looks good as does everything else under the valve cover. That's as far as I've gone with the exception of removing the new Bosch platinum plugs. To my surprise the #4 plug is missing its innards. The outer electrode is ok.
Could a loose ceramic electrode when it gets crushed by the piston in #4 cause an inertial load on #1 to break a rod? I'm assuming the rod is broken since I took a stick and pushed #1 down from the top about 2 inches freely.
There was an engine code for intermittent misfires that I was tracing just prior to the catastrophe.
