it makes a metallic "chirp" as the internals are made of titanium and aluminum. It is not loud at all.

As for the spring, according to Stratmosphere, there is no replacement for a Saab. These BPV's were originally designed for Audi (as Zeke mentioned), and Saab's generate greater boost pressures. In order to allow the BPV to hold back from closing at lower pressures, you needed to stretch the spring to increase its strength. Now, they sell pre-load kits for $60 above and beyond the price of the BPV to increase the strength of the spring. These are for the older, original Hyperboosts (as what I have). The newer Hyperboost (might be where the 'HX' comes from) comes with the pre-load kit already attached.

The vacuum nipple at the top of the Hyperboost is slightly larger than stock. I installed a plastic adapter in-line of the vacuum hose to accomodate this difference in size.

BTW, a BOV (blow-off valve) is the same as a BPV (by-pass valve), which is the same as a hooter valve or a dump valve. This valve "blows off" extra unused boost somewhere. For Saab's, they blow it into the incoming air box. For other vehicles, they blow it into the engine bay. The fine line is when you are referring to an atmospheric dump valve. Normally, these are the ones you are looking for (loud and only has one large intake hose going into it besides the small vacuum line). But, a stock Saab BPV can also be described by the same term since the boost is being dumped into the atmosphere via the airbox.
