The typical failure of the heater core is to develop microcracks that weep coolant. As they get worse it starts to drip on the floor. But hot coolant weeping out of the core stinks like baking bread, and if you don't smell warm coolant, then I doubt the issue is a leaking heater core. And a leaky heater core won't cause no-heat.
If you aren't getting heat, there are a lot of causes. The core can be hot, but the mixer flap may not be moving, so you don't get airflow over it. It is possible that the heater core is clogged. Does the temp gauge go up to normal? A stuck open thermostat will keep the engine cool, and you won't get much heat.
To access the blower connections, open the hood, and remove the horizontal plastic cover at the base of the windshield, behind the false firewall.
