It is unusual that I left the office early. But I did 15 minutes early today. I wanted to check out the rattling of the mid-muffler in my 94 cs n/a in the garage by removing it from the exhaust. Got into a traffic jam. 2 miles from home I was on the right lane making my exit to the right at an intersection in front of the Walgreens entrance. The car on the left was blocking my view. An Toyota SUV darted into the entrance. He was making a swift left turn. I didn't have time to react and hit his driver side front door. No one was hurt. Both cars were driveable. We eased into the Walgreens parking lot to wait for the police officer to arrive making a report.

The hood of the cs was bent. The bumper cracked. The headlights and grill were also badly damaged. I didn't check the fenders. My airbags didn't deploy. Neither did his. From what I can gather in the dark the car costs more to repair than what it is worth (the car is at 176k miles, 146k engine). Although mechanically I didn't detect anything wrong driving home after the office made his report. The cooling system held. Even both turn signals work. One headlight was out, however.

I was going to drive it into the ground, but it won't be necessay now. Better get the auto to 5 speed conversion on the 94 cde done soon but it is out of my control waiting for parts to arrive.

Already I am looking at autotrader for a replacement. There are only two cars I will consider. It will be either a BMW 528 or another SAAB 9k. The 9k has to be post 94 fpt and either has to be 5 speed. Quickly surveying autotrader, I found a 97 528 costs around $10k, There are a couple of them at 85k miles. I can find no 98 9k's. Did find a couple of 95's at $7k and $8k.

My heart leans toward the BMW, provides wife approves of it, but my head tells me to get another 9k. I still have two 94 9k's plus I know the 9k practically inside out now. Getting the BMW will be for the vain reason and there will be a somewhat steeper learning curve.

It is a bad night for me...
