I strongly doubt that it's a timing chain problem. It does appear that it's occuring at high boost conditions.
Two things come to mind - spark plugs and fuel filter. Sputtering under high boost (which usually doesn't come on until near 3K rpm) is typical of overlarge spark plug gap. Pull the spark plugs and check the gap. It should be no more than 1.0mm. If the plugs are old, replace them with the proper (per the manual) NGK plugs. DO NOT SUBSTITUE! Spark plugs are cheap, and they don't run forever. And check the gap before you put in new ones. But at a minimum, check the plug gap. If they're running over 1.0 mm chances are that's the problem.
The other would be an old, clogged fuel filter. At high boost, wide open throttle, and high rpm, you're calling for more fuel than at lower power. If the fuel filter is clogged, you can't get the flow rate, and can actually be running the engine out of fuel.
