because American cars are actually far and away better in terms of waste heat generation (read: wasting energy), as they usually have far bigger engines than the car needs, so they produce a lot more heat than my small, efficient 2.0 L turbo.
I agree with the proper mixture of glycol to water, I've got that down, but I disagree that the Sweedes took this into account properly. It's just not a common occurence for most users, even in Scandinavia. I recently drove a long distance trip where the temps ranged from -15 to -35 deg F. Even once the engine was fully warmed, it would go below operational temp when coasting down the large hills. I think the t-stat only opened once or twice the whole trip (climbing hills)! Too much cold air enters the engine bay and cools the engine too much, making the liquid cooling of engine almost unnecessary.
Besides getting cabin heat, the issue to me is that I want my engine running at full temp as much as possible. Running cold for that long can't be in the best interests of longevity.....
