If you get a mouthful of fuel, then the FPR is past slightly leaking. You'd have major rich operation of you can actually pull liquid fuel out of the FPR with just your mouth. In general, a leaky diaphram will give you a fuel taste.
It's not hard to remove injectors, but you'll need to de-pressurize the system. Run the engine and then pull the fuel pump fuse until the engine dies. Be careful re-seating the injectors.
However, I don't think a visual inspection of the injectors will help. You seem to be running slightly rich at idle conditions. I've had a bad injector, one that you could actually see an issue (broken tip) - it was running so rich that the plug was fouling. For injectors, I would run a can of Techron or other name-brand injector cleaner.
As to a manual, I've made do with the British Haynes for the 9000, and my old 900 16V Bentley manual. Yes, there are major differences in the 2.0 vs 2.3l engines, but some similarities. And the British Haynes isn't great, but it is a decent basic manual, and covers engine issues well.
Although not an engine manual, I highly recommend the Electrical Supplement for your year. Saab's manuals were individual books, covering one subject (electrical, brakes, etc), covering one or more years. Great for a shop, not so good for an individual. But each manual is pretty darn great. Since electronics are the heart of the car, I always get my hands on the electrical supplement - can be ordered from a dealer, and sometimes available from on-line vendors. As an example, from eEuroparts for your car, you can get the "Service manual: Electrical diagnosis & full fault tracing information " for $32; the Trionic manual is the same price.
