trans, you can see the fluid dripping usually from bottom of trans by the rubber plugs. you can inspect with flashlight top of slave cylinder by looking in hole beneath air supply in the trans bell housing. if you see fluid around the clutch line, or bleeder screw, then you are very lucky...
if not, i've just done the job twice on my 92 5-spd
buy oem slave cylinder for $160 with new t/o bearing
replace lines from master cylinder resevoir that are flexible - line from resevoir to clutch master attached to clutch pedal, and from clutch master to the metal line coming out of the slave cylinder.
you can replace the metal line coming out of slave if you want, or just bleed a lot of nice fluid through it, or clean some other way.
you are looking at 6-8 hours of labor (unless you have a really hard time with the starter bolt nuts which are a pain in the a&!)
or, you are looking at $700-$1200 depending on labor rates, whether you get your own parts, replace clutch while you are at it, and whether your mech is honest about labor.
BUT remember, if I, a reasonably newbie to mechanics can do trans mostly by myself in about 6-7 hours in my driveway with a cheap set of tools and several cuss words for the starter, a mech should be able to do 6 hours easy.
add a little if replacing the clutch and lines, but not much for the lines, they are fairly quick.
