Disconnecting the battery won't get you very far as it does not work on the settings of the ETS computer. As for the ECU it will reset its addaptations to your driving style, but I doubt it will cure something like this, which is just a basic setting.
Why don't you get the car hooked up to a TechII with a knowledgable indy behind it? IMO the most lileky case here is that the ETS computer needs to be calibrated.
Some other suggestions: you do not have an automatic, so no idle compensation there, but what about the AC? This symptoms can also be caused by the ECU compensating for an engaged AC compressor that is actually NOT engaged. If it would bounce every 20 seconds or so between 1200 and 1800 that would be typical. But the low-end 1200 would still be too high, though.
An other thing: you say that it happens when the car is warmed up. Difference between a cold and a warmed-up car tehcnically is not that big, except for the SAI system. Are you sure the SAI system switches off after the car is warmed up? Or do you have a " vacuum cleaner" running all the time in your left fromt fender?
just a couple of suggestions.
I also seem to remember to have read a tecnical service bulletin for exactly this symptom on this model/year car. Had someting to do with the cranckcase ventilation system: this is the vacuum hose between the corner of the DI (the three-way connector) and the inlet manifold. The one with the round one-way valve in the line. I will try to find it back and see what it's about exactly.
But my bottom line still is: get it hooked up, codes read and calibrated. Do your throttle body a favor.
Good luck & happy new year
