sounds exactly like a di failing...
when was the last time the di was replaced? if it is di, it will soon get worse.
dealer would diagnose by using their test di (which occasionally go up for sale on ebay).
i went through these symptoms twice in one day, my di failed in my 93, ran like yours, then wouldn't run, i put in the old one from that car (which i had earlier swapped with my 92) and it ran for awhile then it started running rough too (it was on its way out already). i bought a used di with low miles for $100 on ebay and a new one for $299 at eeuroparts.com. both work great and the cars are running better than ever (for me)
if you haven't replaced your di in 50 or 60K, i'd replace it anyway so your car can run like it should. most likely your problem will be fixed and you'll save the diagnosis fee, if not, you'll have a new di and a good spare you can keep or sell.
good luck.
