I can't imagine that the differences between a '91 and a '92 engine are that great, someone really cobbled something.
You might want to do a search on the Crank Position Sensor, it's a piece which typically fails when the engine is hot, works when cold. A test that has been recommended here is to put cold water or snow (plentiful this week in the midwest) on the sensor when it's acting up, check the results.
I don't know which side of Detroit you live on, but I understand that there is a great indy in Ann Arbor and another one in Toledo - look up the "mechanics" section in the gray rectangular box at the bottom of the page.
