Motor mount check

I've been suspicious of a bad motor mount causing some bad shifting action, so I checked it this weekend. The front mount looks a bit worn, but ok. When I levered the engine up, it looked like the rubber is well connected to the base, but it seemed like the top connection could come free of the rubber. Before I waste my time fixing a perfectly fine mount, could anyone please comment if this is expected?
I've only replaced the tranny mount (poly upgrade), so I'm not that familiar with the hydraulic mounts.
