I had this problem in my 88 9000.

Upon first inspection, it looked solid, but upon lifting on the engine a bit, you could see that it was just resting. What happened is the bolt that comes from the top seeds into the rubber in the mount, the rubber around the bolt came undone so it was the rubber torn away from itself, not the rubber coming out of the housing.

I also just bought a 1991 9000t for myself, upon revving up the engine, there was a lot of movement. The top two mounts were back, you could see the cracks. When I took them out, the horizontal mount was really bad. I actually was able to pull the rubber away from itself, it was cracked all the way around, all the way through. I replaced both the horizontal and verticle mounts and it did a LOT for the engine movement, i hardly get any now... although my tranny mount is TOTALLY shot, its not even centered any more.. eventually i will replace that, but i do get very good shifting and hardly any movement from the engine.

HOpe this helped.

BTW. IF you are going to replace one hydrolic mount, change both, i learned the hard way.. trust me.
