Quasimotor's recommendation, and because a hard to find but preventable water pump leak (which Barrs would have easily plugged) would have saved me a head gasket job on a Volvo 940 T a few years back.
Anyway, my new heater core starts giving me heat in about 2-3 miles, even when it's under 10 degrees. The old core would take twice as long. It gave decent heat, but not as much or as fast. I know a core plugs up anyway over time, but I think the presence of Barrs had some thing to do with it, even though it mostly stopped the core leak.
Nevertheless, I would still use it in a pinch to fix a leak (like on a trip someplace with limited tools or a shop nearby) or if my checkbook wasn't working. BUT I would flush the system as soon as I corrected the problem and just use normal coolant.
