Hi All
I just picked up the car from its service and the dealer didn't mention the mechanics comment 'cambelt worn, needs replacement'. The guy wasn't there to ask. The car has had all the correct services, the cambelt last being replaced at 24k miles in sept 2000. Since then it has done 13k miles. Its going to cost 500usd for the alleged check (I have no idea what this entails). Is this someone pulling a fast one? It doesn't sound right to me that the cam would die after 4 years or 13k miles....
The car has spent its life on motorways or parked in the street (no garage), full service history too. I know its impossible to say that a belt is or isn't healthy over a bboard, but my gut tells me this is a bit fishy....I'd look worn revolving at 3k rpm for 14k miles too! Is it a guilt trip over what could potentially kill the car, or has anyone else has their cambelt suffer a premature death. Any comments appreciated, by the way, its a 1995 auto V6 - doh!
Thanks
