Mine was a 1971 142S (SU carburetors). Imagine my suprise when I realized that mine was the only Volvo that I saw for 5000 miles! Fortunately, the only thing that broke was the driver's seatbelt retractor (locked up) - quite scary to drive through the mountains of Mexico with no seatbelt!!!
The Volvo 544 and 142 were relatively simple cars, absolutely no electronics. I don't know how anxious I would be to drive a 1993 9000 with TCS through Mexico. Tiene cohones grande! If I ever did it again, I would choose an old Chevy Impala/Caprice, preferably without fuel injection, a car that is well represented with plenty of available parts and repair expertise.
