My 1998 Saab 9000CSE had a minor 160,000 mile service at my independent Saab/Volvo garage. Returning home, after about 30 miles on the interstate, I was going about 60-70 mph and went to depress the clutch pedal for a downshift and it was like trying to depress a brick. The pedal would not go in. After a minute of squeezing it in and releasing, it suddenly gave way. After that, the clutch would disengage and re-engage as I shifted, but the pedal would stick with a feeling of "detents" going both in and out. A few times more that day, it would again resist being depressed at all, and then give way. There was no noise, and there was no problem with shifting. I telephoned the mechanic to see if anything was done to the brake/clutch hydraulics, but apparently nothing was done. (I suspect a simple check of fluid may have been made.) This continued for a few days, and now after a week the symptom has apparently disappeared.

What worries me is that there may be something in the hydraulics waiting to surprise me at a bad time (such as in a busy intersection). I did some research on the 9000 list, but could find nothing quite like this. Ideas?
