more cabin filter rant

same thing happened w/ the cabin filters for the 9-5. i bought a 9-5 w/ about 45 k on it two years ago. it had all of the dealer service stamps [one of which attested to the fact that the filter had been changed]. i decided that i would do another change as vent output was suspiciously low...the original filter was still in there; same one that it rolled out of the factory with. of course it was black and clogged like my shopvac filter. it was pleated paper combined w/ a charcoal filter inside a large foam envelope [delightful overkill]. you guessed it, the new oem replacement was a simple pleated filter; far cheesier in construction and no more charcoal filter, but it did have a new plastic frame to take up the space where the charcoal used to be. doubt that the price changed though...
