There's a big range of choices in 205/55-16.
Pirelli PZero Asimmetricos work very well on 9000s. The car doesn't have a particularly good camber curve and has a fair amount of body roll so a tire that works well when rolled over onto the outer half of its tread is desirable. I've used several sets on our '92 9000T and have never had any particular durability problem, get about 25K miles per set which I consider quite good, they work so well on that car it's tough to consider using anything else, they're not a great wet-weather tire though.
The Michelin MXX3 is still available in that size, and there's very few stickier tires on the market. The Bridgestone S-02 likewise, and likewise. The S-03 is quieter, a little less grippy, I had trouble with belt separation on the ones I had on my M5.
TireRack is selling the Continental SportContact2 for under $100 a tire in that size, we've got the SportContact2s on my wife's car and so far I love them though they're definitely biased more toward grip than ride quality.
