it's a different setup. The part you've described is used in cars which have the manual fan control settings, as opposed to ACC-equipped cars, which have a different setup.
Perhaps it's not a resistor (don't know my electronics at all!), but ACC cars have a chip attached to a heat sink, which electronically controls the fan speed. When they get cooked, there's this Toshiba chip which can be subbed in to solve the problem, or an entire replacement unit can be gotten from eEuroparts (poss. other sponsors?).
As far as I know, a Griffen would have the ACC as standard equipment. If it's got the rotary fan speed, temp and vent selector knobs, I stand corrected!
