you didn't drive a SAAB?
You're asking if a part will last the "life" of a car, but also state that the car has 150,000 miles on it. For a lot of vehicles, that's about when they get put down!
As far as specifically answering your question, I don't really have one. I don't know what the life expectancy is for a fuel injector. However, I don't really read on this board about folks replacing them as a regular maintenance item. Fuel injectors are suggested as a possible cause for a bad/hunting idle such as you have, but is usually accompanied by the word "sticky" or "dirty."
Fuel injector cleaner seems like a logical first step. Replacing the fuel injectors (I've never done it) seems to be something you do toward the end of the fault-finding process. Also for engine mods--to get more fuel to the cylinders.
Good luck figuring it out--you're not the only one who's been there (or is currently wondering).
