Last weekend I had a spare 5 minutes so I decided to hook up my Stage 1 RAM AIR modification:

consists of 4' black flex hose from my $20 home depot mini shop vac (which needed a longer hose anyway).

i removed the driver's side headlight bulb
pushed on end of hose into horn opening of air intake behind inner fender behind headlight - it was tight but fit nicely on my 92 9000 (I haven't sealed it yet to make it 100% airtight).

I then snaked the hose down in front of the lower driver's side corner of the radiator down behind the lower air dam (i installed in front grill but hose rubbed against radiator and i was afraid of heat melting plastic).

I then took the end of the hose (which is nice and hard for vaccuum attachments) and shoved it out the front air dam in between the grill openings.

I wasn't sure at first if it was making a difference (I figured cool air being forced in at 25mph and up would help out) but yesterday I noticed the car seemed to accelerate rather quickly in first gear from 2500 rpms to 5500 rpms, so much so I almost went into the orange. This surprised me, and then I realized I still had the AC on.

This is a non-turbo saab 5 spd.

So I gave it to my wife to test. 15 minutes later she calls me and says...

"RAM AIR ROCKS!"

She is convinced the car is quicker than it was before.

That's the story. I haven't found a scoop to put on the end of the vaccuum hose in the grill, and may not, I'm not certain of the air dynamics, maybe someone can tell me if it would increase flow or not.

And I still have to seal hose in air horn, to prevent any pressure leakage, but then again, maybe I'll keep it as is so I can remove it easily if necessary.

Next would be to try again on my 93 CSE auto non-turbo.
