i'm inside, i can measure tomorrow
i figured it would help since the single biggest gain i ever saw in performance (besides new DI) was a new air filter after driving 30K+ on one. the improved air flow gave me 4 mpg on the highway and a little more pep.
will email with any updates.
what little i found on the web related to ram air stated that it works the reverse of what one would normally think, a big funnel into a small tube is actually worse than a small opening into a big one.
so, i'm not sure i'm going to add a scoop (though the ram air that came on my 442 consists of two huge scoops with 6" hose into air filter housing, so maybe the engineers knew something...
anyway, i figured the small hose into the large airbox might do the trick.
would be interestng to bypass the air box, ram the air directly into a filter attached to the air mass meter/intake hose. not sure i'll go that far...
but whatever i do, it's been fun, i haven't made any performance mods since i took the governor off my go kart and built a ram air kit for that, bout 20 years ago
if it is as effective as it seems, don't know why saab didn't do something like this, or why most auto manufacturers don't do this, unless it shortens life of air filters too much.
