First off, T a vacuum gauge into the line that runs to the throttle body, take the car out for a drive, verify that it gets and holds vacuum.
Find a long uphill stretch where you can keep the car under boost for a prolonged period, at least 30 seconds; if the vacuum drops during the climb either you've got a bad check valve (the $.10 part that costs $35) or a leak somewhere.
If the 'safety' system is holding vacuum yet the car still drops into limp-home, the odds are good that somehow the pedal position sensor and the throttle-plate position sensor don't agree.
One other thing to try - the connector on the side of the throttle housing can probably pivot up and down about 20 degrees. Grab a big wire tie and tie the connector to the throttle-cable bracket to hold it as far up as it will go. This 'fixed' mine for five years (well, after proving that keeping the motor housing twisted 'up' did the job, I took the throttle off and drilled the thing for a setscrew to hold it that way permanently.) It eventually failed again and I replaced the throttle body with a used about three years back, and so far it's fine.
