Vince, even though you have a normally aspirated engine, it still has a knock sensor. The DI (no APC) box has a connection to a knock sensor located on the block below the intake manifold. Don't confuse the knock sensor with the LH water temperature sensor that is mounted on the intake manifold between cylinders 2 and 3. If the DI box senses engine knock, it dials back on the spark advance. The book says that 4 flashes means either missing knock signal (bad sensor or bad connection) or bad signal, which I take it to mean excessive knocking. If you can get to the sensor, try cleaning the contacts and reseating the connector. I have had someone else ask me about this as it relates to the normally aspirated engine, but I never got an answer about the resolution.
