The wear on the tripod cup indicated in the image would not cause the vibration you describe. I had a 900 with FAR WORSE wear with missing needle bearings in the tripod and dried up lubricant. It caused "clunks" and "clicks" on initial acceleration and braking. It did vibrat, but only a little, on cruise. My point here, the wear in the image would not cause a noticable change in the car's performance.
Problem is ocurrs at 50+ mph. ---> Dead give away. I vote tires and/or wheels. These are the biggest spinning components. They have by far the largest moment of inertia. If one is out of balance, it won't matter which axle gets the wheel, you'll still have a vibration, and it may be difficult to pin point where it comes from as you drive. Could be tread wear, or you've lost a wheel balance weight. I had a set of front tires on my 9K that developed a vibration as the tread wore down (no vib to the steering wheel, some to the brake pedal). It came on surprising quick. In this case inspection of the tread confirmed the tire as the source.
