After scouting through alot of posts, I fixed this myself today benefitting from temps in the high 40's. The SCC came out clean and easy. The unit was harder to crack until I removed the spring clips, top and bottom. The replacement photocell was a radioshack NPN Silicon Infrared Phototransistor part # 276-145, and cost $1.79. The back of the photocell packaging shows which side is collector, and which is "emitter". Previous posts cautioned to keep the collector to the outside of the circuit board. It took a few minutes to solder, even with my inexperience, and buttoned up fine with the plastic tube from the "light channel". I actually laughed out load, although I was alone when I fired my '97 Aero up, and had readable daytime clock for the first time in several years. Thanks to all who have come before !
