I had this whine noise before. I added ATF oil 1/2 in more than the max level on the dip stick and noise disappeared. That was 3 yrs ago. 9K '92 200Kkms. I added the oil while the car is at rest. This BB says run the car for at least 5 min using all gears then while parked and idling, add to max level on dip stick. It came up to about the same level (1/2 in above max)when I checked after a while of rest. I did same with my newly acquired 9K '91 232KKms and still feeling good. Just my experience with this auto tranny. I'm not saying you do the same, but it working for me. Good luck..
