Well, that's a bit of an oxymoron, but what I mean is, does the oil in the tranny ever reach what is considered operating temps in the engine. I would guess no as the only heat it should see is from friction and radiant heat from the engine. This might lead me to believe that the "W" rating is actually applicable at other than very cold temps. I could be wrong.
It seems that the C900 trans and the 9k trans have different needs. I would be very reluctant to put synthetic oil in a 9k trans. Some folks have had luck with various MTL concoctions that are of a similar viscousity to 10W30/40, but I would want to do a lot of research before I strayed away from Saab's recs on this one.
