I just took the valve cover off today and looked at the timing chain. There are no visible signs of wear (amazing at 240k). Doesn't appear to be any grooving on chain, shark finning of cog teeth or stretching of the chain. As I didn't take the timing cover off, I did not look at the balance shaft chain. Maybe that could be making the noise? Also, the top guard for the timing chain was very hard, and loose. I don't know if that is normal. What else could be causing the noise? This car is my daily driver, and I need it to run as long as I can take it. Another question: I just replaced broken top right motor mounts with urethane inserts from eEuroparts. They're harder than old rubber inserts, helped solve shifting problem I was having, but now vibration is very bad. Will these soften up over time?
