A day or two after I had my CEL reset, I brought it to our state's "clean air" testing station for it's semi-annual test (reading codes only). They pluged in their code reader and said that not enough startup cycles had occurred since the reset, system was "not ready" to be read, come back in a few days. Came back a few days later, everything was fine, no codes read, test passed, CEL has been off since.
Evidently OBD-II has some anti-tampering software functions built in to prevent you from resetting the CEL and immediately getting tested. I also thought that you absolutely needed a code reader tool to reset the light, but evidently not. The usual oxygen sensor errors that I get on tht car will not reset themselves, you must have a reader.
