there is a significant difference between the 900 and newer 9000's... not sure why they did it, but i'm from a tall family, my dad is 6'5", brother is 6'6". When i bought my 88 9k, my dad loved the extra room compared to his 900, plus the steering wheel was adjustable. at that point he was considering his next car to be a 9000 (ended up with a volvo instead). in my 94 cse, the leg room in BOTH sides of the front is significantly smaller, even I have problems at 5'7" with my legs hitting the steering wheel. and on the passenger side, since the added the airbag and removed the glovebox, they stole some of the footroom with the fuses being on the floor. IMO these were poor design changes... not enough for me to search for another car, but I can't imagine this being a super-comfortable daily driver for someone who is tall.
that said.. i would think you would be able to remove the rails, and move them back a few inches, provided the wiring below the seat is long enough to adjust for the extra movement. someone else on the board will probably have more info on this though.
good luck and let us know if you figure something out!
